The etrusoft Homepage now says QSM is free for home use but this was not specified on the QSM page and download page. Try your self
This is one piece of software that all would love to have. But this is an evaluation version by which you can save only 30 captures. Don’t worry there is a work around. Its more than Screen Capture, its a photo editor in itself. It offers more advanced features than the Windows built in utility the mspaint. The installation file is an executable of 1.5MB. After the installation I ran the program.
In the Capture menu you can see options like timer-activated capture, Direct X fullscreen desktop , Window Button control etc..
You can guess there functions right?
Now after capturing something it comes directly to the canvas and a save dialog is opened. You can save in 5 file formats. For image editing you are provided with functions like crop , select , add image , opacity control , besides there are the standard mspaint tools also.
When minimized it stays in the notification area. This is a great piece of software but I am forced to tell you some problems about it. The problems are given in the Cons section
Pros :
advanced photo editing features included, allow layers, opacity control, plethora of options in capture mode, supports Saving in 5 formats, Opens files of 9 types including PSD. Allows ‘longer than screen’ window captures. Hot Key supported-F10(changeable)
Cons :
Whenever Polygon capture is used an out of memory error is shown. For small areas still the image is captured, but for large and complex areas it won’t capture. Also the memory usage can increase dangerously. Once on my system it rose up to 885 MB. Once the Out of memory Error occurs you need to restart the application to continue using. Won’t capture video frame from a player Window. Also when you try to open a large file (I tried a JPEG 990Kb 2000×3000 image) it crashes.

**Tips : when evaluation is over and you cant save the image try this either select the captured image using the select tool and copy (CTRL + C) then paste it in some other image editing software or take Prt Scr of QSM window and save it using other image editing software. **
